I am proud to be a member of the Atlanta Metro Alumni Chapter due to our efforts to support the university's students financially and any other way we can. As former students we know the challenges students face in order to stay in school, graduate and obtain successful careers. Our efforts to recruit local high school students to attend Central State University via college fairs and on an individual basis is very important. Giving back to the students after us is our primary concern.

LaVerne Spaulding VanZant '67, has been a lifetime employee of Los Angeles Unified School District and retired in 2001 as an elementary school administrator. After 34 years with the District she went back and worked until 2006 as an Education Consultant, Supervisor of Student Teachers, State Monitor for Underperforming Schools, Principal Coach and School Account Sales Specialist.
Born and raised in Farmingdale, Long Island, New York, Mrs. VanZant attended Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in three years. She holds a Teaching Credential, Master's Degree in Urban Education as well as an Educational Administrative Credential from California State University, Los Angeles. She completed all classes and qualifying exams for the Education and Policy Studies in Education Doctoral Program from UCLA and Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from Americus University.

Dr. VanZant was the former Treasurer, Board Member and Public Relations contact for the Los Angeles CSU Alumni until moving to Fayetteville, GA in 2006. She is currently the Scholarship Chairperson and College Fair Point person for the Atlanta CSU Alumni. She volunteers wherever and whenever she can to promote Central State University.
